About

Bezinho Otero grew up in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and lived right by the beach. He started surfing when he was 8 years old with his friends but his main hobby growing up was Jiu-Jitsu and from 14, he was competing every weekend with the sport. When his Jiu Jitsu career was coming to an end as a competitor, he travelled to Hawaii to teach Jiu-Jitsu and surf on the side.

His first-time trying SUP was back in 2006 whilst he was in Hawaii teaching Jiu Jitsu. One of his students taking his class invited him to try it. He immediately bought a paddle and took it back to Brazil, borrowed a board off a friend and started paddling. Bezinho is one of the pioneers of the sport and has introduced it to Rio de Janeiro. He is multiple Rio de Janeiro SUP Wave State Champion and was crowned the 2017 Brazilian SUP Wave National Champion in the open division.
