QUALIFICATION

The APP World Tour brings the World's very best athletes to the some of the World's most iconic and high profile Cities for a spectacle like no other, while embracing participation at every level through its @citypaddlefestival approach and providing a unique access point to the World Championship Tour platform for aspiring athletes.

2020 has been an unprecedented year for the APP World Tour. Due to the complications arisen from Covid-19, the APP has been forced to cancel all of its events. The final schedule for the 2021 season of the APP World Tour has now been released, providing a dynamic, high profile series of events to challenge the World's very best and entertain on site and online spectators alike as the Tour returns to Center Stage once again in 2021.

**Important Note**

Please note that the below information relates only to the APP World Championship Tour in terms of qualification: all other divisions hosted at APP World Tour will feature open, unrestricted entries to allow participation at every level, from Pro-Am down to entry level and fun racing. Registration for racing events is now open, you can enter all events here. Registration for surfing events will open shortly.

RACING

Overview:

In 2021, the Racing Tour will host events in Hawaii, Gran Canaria, Paris and in a final location to be announced:

  • There will be a total of 5 Events on the APP World Tour in 2021 that each feature both a sprint racing elimination and downwind race.

  • Athletes will be allowed 1 distance and 1 sprint discard for the season meaning that the combination of athletes best 4 sprint and 4 distance results will determine the Overall World Champion for both Men and Women, as well as discipline Champions for the Tour (i.e. Distance & Sprint)

  • Prize-money levels for 2021 are set at EUR 20,000 per event, with 50% of this being awarded to the Sprint discipline (EUR 10,000) and 50% to the distance (EUR 10,000), with final prize-money breakdown to be announced following consultation with the Athlete Advisory Board that will be formally introduced prior to the 2021 season.

Official Qualifying events in each major global region are complete for 2021 and a more built out qualification process is in the process of being established for the 2022 season and will be published here. Please also note that given the transition nature of 2021, the APP has focused on delivering a feasible Global Tour with the current travel restrictions taken into account, with a N. America, Europe and Middle East / Asia presence. With a projected easing up of global travel restrictions, the APP is building up to a significantly larger 2022 season, with the Major Host Cities returning and new incredible venues being added to the Tour.

Qualification for the 2021 APP World Racing Tour:

Below we have outlined the pre-qualified athletes for the Elite APP World Championship Tour line up for 2021. This line up consists of:

  • The Top 20 Men and Top 12 Women from the 2019 season

  • Qualifiers from the Australian and European Regional Qualifying Events

  • International Wildcard Awards based on competitive history and performances to date.

  • The Total Field for Men in 2021 will be 32 and for Women, 24

(Please note that the participation number difference from Men to Women is based on historic participation levels on the APP World Tour. Should demand increase for Women participation, the APP will of course increase the Women’s field.)

Local Wildcards

In addition to the above pre-qualified athletes, local wildcards will be awarded in conjunction with each event for both Men and Women to celebrate local talent through the APP's spotlight. Local Wildcard submissions for specific events can also be made through the regular communications channel at athletes@appworldtour.com

Additional International Wildcards & Alternates

It should also be noted that we have a long list of alternates from wildcard submissions that will replace any pre-qualified athletes who are not able to attend. All pre-qualified athletes will need to confirm their attendance at each event a minimum of 45 days prior to the event, thereby allowing alternates the chance to prepare and plan travel in the case of spots in the Main Event opening up.

Please note that aspiring APP Athletes should still attend any and all events that they can, as even if the Main Event is full, we will have a Pro-Am component across all events, and in the case of any no shows, alternates that are on site at the event can take advantage of any open spots in the Main Event. For all wildcard submissions and any questions, please contact us at athletes@appworldtour.com

Board Carriage:

The APP has a transport plan for boards once in the Hawaiian Islands between the Races, and is working with brands to coordinate board availability on Island for these events. We are also finalizing a transport solution between mainland Europe and Gran Canaria, back to Paris and then onto the World Championship Tour Finals. Stay tuned for more on this logistics plan right here at www.appworldtour.com and across formal communication channels and please direct any questions to athletes@appworldtour.com

Travel Assistance

Given the continued challenging environment as it relates to global travel, the APP is here to support its athletes and work on solutions to facilitate their participation on Tour, such as formal authorization letters or invitations. Please do not hesitate to let us know if you have any specific needs, and we are preparing plans for each global region as best we can that we will share with all athletes as needed. Again, for further information, please email us at athletes@appworldtour.com
